Fashion Report Card: Sonam Kapoor

Sonam Kapoor is probably one of the few filmstars on the newbie block in Bollywood who can survive without a dedicated fashion stylist.

The delicate boned diva owns and applies grey matter to her wardrobe, comes up with sometimes severe, sometimes waif-like, sometimes eclectic, sometimes Parisian chic ensembles and carries them off with equal aplomb, and with her high wattage smile, sometimes superb, sometimes shocking shoes and strappy bags.

Simply gorgeous. Sonam breaks the mould of the 'short dresses and ironed tresses' brigade and gushes forth like a sheer Greco Roman delight. Her body language spells languid ease together with her perfectly accentuated cheekbones and collarbones.

Natty yet nymph like. From her smoky eyes to the fine detailing on her crisp white jacket to her immaculate black heels, Sonam Kapoor looks every bit the cat's whiskers, poured into the black pants. Super stylish.

She dares to be different. Sonam delights in a fleeting peach creation teamed with a loose lace jacket. Slightly messy hair, gentle smile, lazily looped handbag. Wish the undereye concealer had worked its magic though

Near ethereal in her traditional avatar, she perfects the traditional greeting, swathed in powder blue and pearls. Alluring!

Great hair. Not-so-great lipstick. Lousy accents in shoulder zips and clumped up gold trinkets. Maybe you could have tried zapping away those pouches under your eyes too, darling. And yes, the skirt and the wicked witch's pointed shoes do nothing to rev up the style quotient of this ensemble.

Pretty. Simple. Pretty simple. Sonam's choice of scarlet lip colour revs up the otherwise sedate and marmish dress. Oh no! You're way too young to cavort in boring greys, blanched pastels and dull hues. Gift yourself the vivid hues, darling. The shoes manage to up the style quotient a bit though. Just a lil bit.

She wrote: 'What an amazing day! We shot with the living legend herself, Annie Leibovitz! I swear this was such an eye opening day. She shot our Kardashian Kollection for Sears ad campaign!

'I can’t give away any details, but we have never been shot like this before and it was soooo fun shooting with Kourtney and Khloe… Mason even made a cameo!'

The trio clearly made a lasting impression on the photographer, who is now throwing them a bash at her studio in New York next week to celebrate the Kardashian Kollection clothing line.

The girls lounge on a sofa clad all in black in a second promotional picture, and strut towards the camera in different leopard-print pieces in another.

The Kardashian Kollection was launched in Los Angeles a fortnight ago and hit stores on August 25.

In addition to their collection for Sears and various fragrances and other products, the family continue to expand their retail empire.

They announced this week that another boutique, named Kardashian Khaos will be opening later this year in Las Vegas. The family already have three branches of their DASH franchise in Calabasas, New York and Miami.

2012 Updo Hair Trends | Hair Style For Women

Kinder Aggugini

Bottega Veneta

From simple buns and classy French twists to sexy rolls, elegant braided chignons and rock 'n' roll styles, discover some of the hottest spring 2012 updo trends straight off the runway.

We know that we have so much to wait until spring, yet it is always helpful to take a peek at the upcoming trends. Among a riot of natural, bouncy long hairstyles, the catwalks also featured lots of sexy and fresh updos. Get inspired by these beautiful spring 2012 hairstyle trends and replicate the ones you love the most.

Up or at the nape of the neck, an updo represents a timeless style that reinvents itself season after season. New versions are being rethought in order to flatter everyone and spring's 2012 uncomplicated 'dos perfectly capture the effortlessly chic essence of the warm season. At Christopher Kane, hair was gathered at the back of the head into a loose knot with strands gently pulled across the face for a floating effect.

The classic, simple chignon has been around forever and the best thing about it is that it doesn't take much time at all to recreate. We saw it at Rachel Roy with a side parting and looking extremely chic, but also elegant and soft at Kinder Aggugini and Bottega Veneta. More complicated were the versions spotted at Marni and Suno, where twisting, tucking and weaving hair resulted into slightly messy, yet super-feminine 'dos.

"A hybrid of Thirties, Forties and Fifties glamour with a feminine, easy, casual finish," said Jeanie Syfu about the pretty and gorgeously undone 'do seen at Tracy Reese. So youthful and breezy, this style can be achieved by simply rolling the hair up and around the face. You should follow the same steps in order to get the retro and sophisticated updo spotted at Preen, yet this time make sure your hair doesn't look messy.
A very sculptural approach on the spring 2012 updo trends was seen at Fendi and Jil Sander where hair was swept away from the face, teased and bouffant, with a '50s-'60s mid-century shape. To create this voluminous 'do you have to backcomb your hair, slick it down the sides and pin it under in a faux bob.

At the Christian Dior fashion show, updos looked simply elegant, perfectly reflecting the modern, fresh Dior woman. Start by making a side parting, then roll and pin hair into place, leaving the result rather unfinished. Rolls were also showcased at Jean Paul Gaultier, but this time they were oversized and vintage-inspired. The 1940's rolls were amazingly complemented by vampy red lips and a fine line of black on the lids.

The classic French twist represented a fruitful source of inspiration for spring 2012. Sicilian-inspired at Dolce & Gabbana, dramatic and glam at Badgley Mischka, slicked-back at Narciso Rodriguez, and almost perfect at Rochas, this updo gets new twists, looking bold and otherworldly. To create this refined 'do, twist hair centered vertically on the back of the head and keep tucking until obtaining a glam look.

"Never too glamorous, never too androgynous, with a hint of rock ’n’ roll, Armani walks that thin line between everything," said hairstylist Franco Gobbi speaking about those bewitching twists spotted at Giorgio Armani. To get this effortless style you just have to twist sections of hair into different directions. Another 'do with a rock vibe was the polished, glossy one at Gucci.

At the Thakoon show, all eyes were on those eye-catching hairstyles. The look was bold and vividly-colored with hair pulled back and tucked into a messy braided chignon. A more elegant, feminine version of the braided chignon was seen at Moschino with braided extensions wrapped over the head.
